This project aims to breathe new life into the works of Charles Ives, one of America's most groundbreaking composers. Saxophonist Mike Rubini and pianist Marino Cordasco seek to stretch the boundaries of Ives's songs by infusing them with improvisation. By blending the intricate melodies and harmonies of Ives with the improvisational spirit of jazz, they honor Ives's pioneering vision while inviting the audience to explore the emotional depth and complexity of his music in a fresh and captivating way.
Questo progetto mira a ridare nuova vita alle opere di Charles Ives, uno dei compositori più innovativi d'America. Il sassofonista Mike Rubini e il pianista Marino Cordasco cercano di ampliare i confini delle canzoni di Ives, infondendole con improvvisazione. This quartet emerged from Mike's vision, gathering some of the finest musicians in his region to propel the music forward and explore new avenues of expression. Drawing from deep appreciation for classical, jazz, and contemporary music, Mike creates an intriguing syncretism within this group. The music is a delicate balance between composed and improvised elements, where written material and improvisation coexist harmoniously. The quartet has been actively touring Italy, performing at notable jazz festivals such as Umbria Jazz and Bari in Jazz Festival.
Questo quartetto è nato dalla visione di Mike, che ha riunito alcuni dei migliori musicisti della sua regione per spingere la musica oltre e esplorare nuove vie di espressione. Traendo ispirazione dal suo profondo apprezzamento per la musica classica, il jazz e la musica contemporanea, Mike crea un intrigante sincretismo all'interno di questo gruppo.
